Pieces of Venice does not create “just” Venice souvenirs: it’s the result of an agreement between Luciano Marson and Luca Cerchier who asked Karin Friebel to join them and physically manifest their love for Venice, for materials, for beauty, and for social responsibility, in a company.
Across the Venetian territory, Pieces of Venice salvages recyclable materials from Venice and its lagoon and makes them available to a broad public both in their natural state and transformed. The materials used by Pieces of Venice communicate a profound sense of belonging to their place of origin. They still hold within them a living memory and the fragrances of the lagoon and the city of Venice. Pieces of Venice utilizes ship’s chains, the piers, and boardwalks of the city of Venice, anchors and old canal signal posts from the Venetian Lagoon, in order to give them a new life and purpose in their original form or in compositions or transformations. As a Benefit Company, Pieces of Venice is both highly sensitive and socially aware and it entrusts the working and transforming of these materials to companies whose goals involve social revitalization and rehabilitation. In bringing products to market, Pieces of Venice is geared towards an audience that is not only attentive to the quality of the objects but also aware that part of the value of the purchased product will go to benefit society. The largest and most unique pieces such as the Venice’s boats models, like a gondola/ferry, a small ‘vaporetto’ station, a taxi model, the breastwork of a dock, or other significant pieces that we will find in our wanderings in search of materials, will be put up for sale at auction and all of the profits will be donated to non-profit organizations that are working for the protection of Venice.
